VetsRock 2016 with Mohegan Sun

In the week before Veterans Day, businesses, community, and veterans came together at Mohegan Sun for VetsRock 2016. The multi-day was event organized by Til Duty is Done. The event acknowledged the service of veterans, while setting the stage to build on their dynamic skills.

CSM (Retired) Earl Rice commended the event:

“VetsRock was an extremely well done event to recognize our Veterans and provide job opportunities for many of them. The dinner on Wednesday night, 9 November, was truly uplifting for one of our WWII Veterans. Everyone made him feel special and as he stated, ‘one of the best days of my life’.”

Thursday morning at VetsRock, CSM Rice continued, “focused on thanking our Vietnam Veterans for their service. They brought in the Mobile Vietnam Wall for Family, Friends and the Community to search for the names of a loved one or friend. Many shared tears as well as telling their stories of how the war impacted them and their Family.” This powerful event was followed by a career fair. The hiring event built upon the success and opportunities of last year; each attending employing company had jobs. Veteran candidates were able to get valuable interview advice. Veterans also were fitted for suits and coached on business etiquette.

The confidence could be felt throughout the event. CSM Rice noted “one veteran stated that he [felt he] could have landed three jobs” – meaning that the efforts of organizers were successful in this well-executed event.

The Ferriter Group’s participation in VetsRock demonstrates its versatility and deep reach. LTG (Retired) Mike Ferriter observed that working as a distributed team from locations in Washington state, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Germany, Los Angeles, Monterrey, CA, and Columbus, GA, the Ferriter Group has reach and makes an impact preparing and attending the VetsRock event in Connecticut. The powerful effects included making 3,000-5,000 veterans feel special at the career fair – focusing on hiring the talent, teamwork, and commitment of veterans. Over 50 veteran Special Operators from Fort Bragg were touched by the camaraderie of Wednesday evening’s dining in. The Wednesday night event included support and attendance by spouses and family members; also present were Gold Star Families.

The Ferriter Group worked with the Veteran Business Alliance to support five companies attending VetsRock – establishing business and sales relationships with the event and Mohegan Sun. As LTG Ferriter summarized: “in doing so strategically, we re-confirmed the idea that TFG can make big things happen. My message: Think BIG!” The Ferriter Group looks forward to thinking beyond the obstacles for bigger success in supporting veterans and ensuring that they demonstrate inspired leadership.
